CUT IT DOWN!

I have been in a season of transition for the past several months. Now I’m in a new season and a new place. I may be in a new place with a new assignment but one thing is the same I’m still running the race. What I have discovered over the past several years is that when we are in the mist of change or transition it’s a great time to examine our lives and what we are doing. It is a great time to remove things that are slowing us down or holding us back.

So many people, churches, ministries, and business want to go to the next level. We all want to have fruit in our lives in our churches or ministries. No one runs their race thinking I hope I fail, and I hope I pick up things that slow me down and trip me up. To Run the Race fruitfully and to reach our full potential We may need to toss aside or cut down a few things.

Luke 13: 6-9 (NLT)Then he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree growing in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it but did not find any. So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, ‘For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?’

“‘Sir,’ the man replied, ‘leave it alone for one more year, and I’ll dig around it and fertilize it. If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.’”

This story always smacks me in the face I believe it’s a great wake up call. I love how direct it is; if it bears fruit great keep it! If it doesn’t CUT IT DOWN!

What personally are we hanging on to? What things are we doing that have not produced fruit in years, but we keep doing?  What things have we sprinkled fertilizer on for years with no results? If it’s producing fruit and adding value great! Keep it! If not maybe it’s time to pull out the ax so to speak and cut down the things that keep holding us back!
